I love Gavin DeGraw and Howie Day. Both are very talented, write their own music, play their own instruments, and they do not dance - just so we're clear on that. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Boy Bands as much as the next girl, particularly at the height of their popularity when NSync and the Backstreet Boys were duking it out for the #1 video slot every fucking week on TRL back in the day, but at that point they were still a packaged deal. I'm not going to lie, I have all the CDs that both bands put out. In the early stages of their career they had all their songs written for them, their styles picked out for them (the Cute One, the Bad Boy, etc) and all their dance moves choreographed in a ridiculous manner - some of the ways they twisted around, I didn't know it was possible for the human body to move like that. As later albums came out, they started writing more of their own stuff and still doing fairly well until the Boy Band explosion kind of imploded and everyone was like, 'Wow, over it now". Everyone went quietly away for a while, then Justin (NSync) and Nick (Backstreet) each came out with solo projects and I think it is safe to say that Justin won that round. However, Justin really is incredibly talented. I don't think there is anything wrong with the choreographed moves, I just think you have to have some substance to back it up so it's not all show. I really believe Justin is talented and he does work his ass off to put on a great show. However, I don't think some people give him the credit he deserves because of his "roots" with NSync (who will, like the Backstreet Boys) be putting out one final CD together. And if you are wondering, yes I did buy Backstreet's latest CD and it is actually really good, better than I expected it to be). I am not comparing Gavin and Howie and Justin to one another, I don't think you can just because of how differently they started out. I just think Justin should get a little more credit here, and he does play the piano and the guitar so it's not like all he has going for him are a few dance moves and a mediocre voice - this boy can do it all (in case you're also wondering, yes I did buy his solo CD too. It's damn fucking good). So that's all, Justin is a pretty boy with talent, but Gavin and Howie are also pretty boys with talent, just a different kind of pretty, if that makes sense. You don't have to be ugly to be talented or write amazing songs and these guys all have proven it. I think they're all talented, they just got to where they are by taking very different paths and all the haters need to just stop and let everyone be.
On a much lamer note, Teetz and I recently found out that he is actually NOT the one Jenny is all bent out of shape over - it's Kayleen. That's news to everybody, because Kayleen was not mentioned at any point whatsoever. I guess Jenny doesn't understand the fact that Kayleen works a lot and doesn't have time to see her friends in Lincoln, let alone drive to Omaha all the time to see her friends either. It's not as though Kayleen and I are hanging out all the time, yes I have seen her more recently but these have been special occasions such as Teetz's birthday. But apparently that's what Screech Owl was talking about on the phone when she said I was stealing other peoples friends. No wonder for the confusion, we weren't even arguing about the same people. And really, we weren't even arguing about Teetz to begin with, all I did was tell the truth, and some people just can't handle the truth. And then they send their boyfriends and friends to confront people because they have no backbones for themselves. Ah well, you can only hope that they simply never breed, so more people like them are not brought into the world.
